(CNSNews.com) - Armed gunmen shouting "Allah is great" attacked the U.S. Embassy in Damascus, Syria, on Tuesday morning, but they did not kill any U.S. personnel. The attackers -- as many as four of them -- reportedly drove up to the embassy in two vehicles and started firing on it. Press reports said the attack would have been much worse if a delivery van loaded with gas canisters had exploded as the terrorists apparently intended it to do. At least one Syrian security guard was killed in the attack, and 11 other people were wounded -- including a Chinese diplomat who was hit by shrapnel inside the Chinese embassy compound. It's still not clear who the culprits are. The attack does not appear to be the work of al Qaeda, some experts said. Syrian security forces reportedly killed three of the attackers and wounded the fourth. The Syrian government, which supports terrorist groups, is calling it a terrorist attack.
