I have frequently mentioned my artist friend Ron Baldwin who transitioned from being a pastor to being an artist. I caught up with Ron at a recent art show here in Nashville.

He told me he just sold one of his paintings for $10,000. That was a landmark event that confirms his standing in the art community. It also confirms that moving into God's unique gifts and living with an authentic "fit" will bring more success and fulfillment than trying to do what others may think is worthwhile, Godly or humanitarian.

It also gave me a new respect for the beautiful piece that hangs above our piano - given to us by Ron in appreciation for helping him through this significant transition.

2. Change your view

"Dead Poet's Society" is one of my all-time favorite movies. Robin Williams plays the part of a college professor who wants his students to think for themselves. In one early scene he asks the rigid, proper students to stand on top of their desks to view things in a different way.

Just today again I was working with a very competent and successful professional. But it was clear that the years of doing things in exactly the same way had clouded this gentleman’s ability to “see” the possibilities that existed all around him.

What have you done this week to “see” things differently? Is there a strong chance that you are missing something? Go to Zillow.com to see your house from a view you have never seen. Drive a different route to work tomorrow. Kiss your spouse unexpectedly. Go for a ride in a hot-air balloon.

Ask yourself if 20 years in the same job is a commendable sign of your loyalty and commitment or a frightening reminder that you have missed some significant opportunities along the way. At the very least, stand on your desk today!

4. News You Can Use

Read This: If an average book is 200 pages then 20 books would be 4000 pages. Divide that by 365 and you get about 10 pages a day -- that's all that's required to actually read 20 books a year. And you and I both know that could change your life dramatically -- make you an expert in anything you want. 10 pages a day -- 20 minutes is only one page per two minutes. I read a page a minute but not everyone does. But that's why this is such a reasonable goal for anyone who is serious about opening up new opportunities.

Rare and Valuable? Years ago I inherited my Dad's old set of the Charles Atlas fitness program. Charles Atlas was promoted as The World's Most Perfectly Developed Man. I got to thinking that perhaps this rare set of original instuctions was worth a fortune. I have the complete set of 10 lessons -- and they're in excellent shape. I was greatly disappointed to discover that I could buy the same set on eBay for $4.25.
