Shalom,
Scripture references are from,
the SET (Stone Edition Tanach) for the OT
and the PNT (Power New Testament) for the NT unless otherwise specified.
Jn 18:29 Then Pilate came outside to them and said, "What accusation do you bring against this man?"
Jn 18:30 And they answered and said to him, "Unless this one was doing evil, we would not have given HIM over to you."
Then Pilate said to them, "Take HIM yourselves and judge HIM according to your Torah."
...
Jn 18:38...he (Pilate) went to the Jewish leaders and said to them, "I find no reason to accuse HIM.
...
Jn 19:4 And Pilate again came outside and said to them, "See, I am leading HIM outside to you, so that you must know that I find in HIM no reason to condemn HIM."
Jn 19:5 Then Y'SHUA came outside, wearing the thorny crown and the purple cloak. And he said to them, "Behold the man."
Jn 19:6 Then when they saw HIM the High Priests and the attendants cried out saying "Crucify! Crucify!" Pilate said to them, "Take HIM yourselves and you crucify HIM: for I do not find a crime in HIM."
Jn 19:7 The Jewish people answered him, "We have a Torah and according to The Torah HE ought to die, because HE made HIMself Son of YHVH."
Jn 19:8 Therefore when Pilate heard this statement, he was more afraid,
Jn 19:9 and came into the praetorium again and said to Y'SHUA, "Where are you from?" But Y'SHUA did not give him an answer.
Jn 19:10 Then Pilate said to HIM, "Do you not speak to me? Do you not know that I have authority to release you and I have authority to crucify you?"
Jn 19:11 Y'SHUA answered him, "You would not have any authority over me unless it was given to you from above: because of this the one who gave me over to you has greater sin."
Jn 19:12 From this time Pilate was seeking to release HIM:
but the Jewish people cried out saying, "If you would release this one, you are not Caesar's friend: everyone who makes himself king speaks against Caesar."
Have you ever really read this?
Have you ever really considered Pilate possibly as your friend while you were reading this?
Pilate kept trying to wash his hands of this crucifixion. He kept trying to turn Y'SHUA back over to the Jews or to release HIM but....
What use is it to have "authority" if you refuse to use it?
Pilate kept trying to avoid using his authority. It was well within his authorization to simply state that he found no fault in Y'SHUA and to release HIM. He did not have to continue to go before the people. Had he wanted to he could have stopped after the beatings which he had ordered and released HIM then but again he did not.
Pilate would have fit well into today's society because for Pilate it was all about image! How did the people perceive him? What reports would be made to Caesar that might reflect upon him? Today it would have been what clothes did he wear? What kind of car did he drive? Where were his tickets for each game, etc...?
For Pilate image was every thing!
Do you know Pilate?
Do you know the person who is most concerned with telling you which church he attends? With what "his" church does? With what he does within the church or who he is within the church?
Pilate was not necessarily a "bad" person, he simply did not want to offend anyone! He did not want to be blamed for anything. He wanted the authority, the position and the perks that came with the position but he did not want the responsibility. He did not want to pay the costs associated with the authority.
Mat 28:18 Then when Y'SHUA came HE spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to me in Heaven and upon the earth.
Mat 28:19 Therefore when you go, you must make disciples of all the heathens,
Mat 19:20 teaching them to keep all the things that I have been commanding you: and behold I am with you all the days until the end of the age."
We do not want to pay the price! We are unwilling to keep ALL that HE commanded of us!
The CHURCH, the children of YHVH have been given the authority of YHVH upon the earth but for them it is all about their image!
Lk 10:19 Behold I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions, and upon every power of the enemy, and nothing could harm you.
Where are your trampled snakes and scorpions?
Where are the results of you trampling upon the power of the enemy rather than his victories over you?
Has he hurt you, your family, your friends or are you really exercising the authority that Y'SHUA gave to you?
Are you more concerned with what will your neighbors think? Your children or spouse? Will your boss hear and may it cost you that promotion? Are you afraid your Pastor will think you are a fanatic? Are you concerned he will feel you are usurping his authority or will he welcome you?
Rom 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate [to be] conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. KJV
What image are you becoming?
The image of Y'SHUA walking the earth or Pilate?
Do you reveal YHVH through The CHRIST or do you reveal your "SELF"?
Jn 19:7 The Jewish people answered him, "We have a Torah and according to The Torah HE ought to die, because HE made HIMself Son of YHVH."
What do the people say about you?
Psa 82:6 I have said, Ye [are] gods; and all of you [are] children of the most High. KJV
What does YHVH say?
