IMHO: In order to understand God's character and nature one must understand the two trees in the Garden of Eden. The first tree, the Tree of Life, which God declares is in the middle of the garden, represents Him and His character and nature and the second tree, the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, which Eve declares is in the middle of the garden, represents all other views of God and His character and nature.
I could jump on a soapbox and poorly communicate them, but i prefer to recommend that all read the series "Serpents of Desire" to gain a decent beginning understanding of them. While i do not endorse everything the good Rabbi says i am confident that this is a teaching worthy of learning; God is not a destroyer god, but a restorer god and that His mercy dictates that He must sometimes take radical action to preserve man-kind like the flood, Sodom & Gomorrah, the great fire.

FYI: This series is the ONLY content at this site that I would ever endorse!
