Faith comes by hearing the Word! |
|
When we first become Christian it is immediately urgent to our spiritual well being that we have a thread to hang on to, when we waiver because of lack of faith.
Romans 10:17 tells us "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." (This is also a promise!)
This being the case I thought we may want to take a look at some of God's promises to us. They start in the early Old Testament and run throughout the New Testament.
Today's promise: Exodus 14:13, NASB
But Moses said to the people, "Do not fear! Stand by and see the salvation of the LORD which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see them again forever."
This promise must have been difficult for the terrified Israelites to believe, the sea before them and the Egyptians bearing down behind them. The proverbial rock and a hard place! But God, in His faithfulness, did exactly what He promised.
God had set Moses aside in the desert for years while He trained him to have this kind of faith in Himself. Moses did not waiver nor take time to think, "Now will God do what He said He will do?" No Way! He KNEW what God would do, and the fact that he did not know HOW God would do it did not give him one moments pause for doubt.
[This happenstance is a fact that skeptics have argued down through the ages, but because of modern day abilities, divers have found what is thought to be the remains of the wheels from Pharoahs carriages that went down into the sea that day.]
I want us to know this kind of unwaivering faith! It is the only thing that will help us keep our spiritual feet solidly in Him when times are rough.
If you want this kind of faith you can ask for it in prayer to God, but you must also be willing to have that same faith tried, how else would we know that our faith is being tested?
Or know that we have been tried and found that we clung to that Word, regardless of how things LOOK? Faith is not a place where we trust our eyesight, because it is not visible, but is learned by claiming these verses of Promise from God when the going gets rough and we can see no way out!

Amen!
I am amazed at how often I catch myself walking by sight and not by faith... it comes so naturally.

Ain't it the truth Goober! It is part and parcel of our genetic make up, and is why we need a Savior to begin with!

I thank God that there is hope for us all.
 | | Isaiah 55:
7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Isa 55:10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:
11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. |

A promise for today |
|
Matthew 11:28 NASB
Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.
Most of humankind do not carry off a long drawn out hardship with grace, and I of all people admit it is difficult.
This is one of my personal trials, dealing with the business of moving which seems to be dragging out needlessly, but this is what happens when people are involved, which is a must.
My problem however, is minor compared to some of those of you who post. One has had to deal with cancer, for example, which is a much more personal experience. The dealing with Chemo in and of itself is debilitating, and wears on the energy of ones being. That must have required faith in the finished work of Christ without measure! Yet he had this promise to cling to. He knew that the outcome did not rest on who and what he is, but on Who and What his Savior is! And now he is clear of cancer and is flying high, so to speak, again! Praise God for that healing!
Each healing and problem resolved, when laid at the throne of grace, is evidence of His faithfulness to us. Praise God for these promises to which I cling!!!
I am reminded of the song that goes something to the effect of' Are you weak and heavy laden, bring it to the Lord in prayer!
Whatever would we do without prayer and One to hear that plea, and who also answers it? We do not have to find out! We have promises, hope and a Savior Who cares deeply & completely for us. Pity the athiest!
There are those who hurt daily, hourly, and minute by minute, who ask for healing of whatever their need, and they cling to hope in Christ, regardless how long it takes to get the answer! Ah, but those who choose to be agnostic, or athiest have no hope, and that is what they choose. Needless, incredible loss.

OY! Talk about a heavy burden! To have to shoulder all the troubles and cares of this world all by themselves.
If only they would hear the Word.
 | | Revelation 3:
17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eye salve, that thou mayest see.
19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. |
